Proxmox
This section is about Proxmox, primarily Proxmox Virtual Environment
(PVE).
What is Proxmox VE?
Proxmox VE is a type 1 hypervisor that is built on top of Debian
Linux. Because of the Debian base, Proxmox is incredibly stable as a
hypervisor. Proxmox is also licensed under the AGPL which means that it
is free to use for both personal and commercial use. This also means
that the entire feature set is available to use free of charge and
advanced features like clustering, are not behind a paid license like on
VMware.
Broadcom Acquisition of VMware & Affects on Proxmox
Since Broadcom acquired VMware, Proxmox has seen a surge in
interest and use. This has lead to the Proxmox developers
working on improving and adding features to make it easier to
interoperate with and migrate from VMware. This guide may gloss
over these features. |
